Tarrant Appraisal District is governed by a Board of Directors representing taxing units within Tarrant County.
The Board of Directors provides governance and decision-making authority to ensure that the district is able to carry out its mission effectively. The Chief Appraiser oversees the district's operations, ensuring that all property appraisals are accurate, transparent, and fair.
Board's Primary Duties:
- Elect from members a chair and secretary at the first meeting of the calendar year
- Have board meetings at least once each calendar quarter
- Adopt the CAD's annual operating budget before Sept. 15 after fulfilling notice requirements and holding a public hearing
- Have prepared an annual financial audit conducted by an independent certified public accountant
- Biennially develop a written plan for the periodic reappraisal of all property
- Hire a chief appraiser
- Appoint a taxpayer liaison officer
- Determine whether to remove ARB members appointed by the board after learning of a potential ground for removal

According to Chapter 6 of the Texas State Property Tax code, the appraisal district is governed by a board of nine directors. Five of the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors are appointed by the taxing units (the districts within its jurisdiction) to serve staggered four-year terms beginning on January 1 of every other even-numbered year. Three directors are elected by majority vote at the general election for state and county officers by the voters of the county in which the district is established and serve staggered four-year terms beginning on January 1 of every other odd-numbered year. The county assessor-collector serves as an ex officio director.

Public Board Meetings
A majority of Board members must be present for a meeting to be held. All meetings are open to the public and must allow time to hear public concerns during the meeting. Comments from individuals should be limited to five minutes and be about issues under the jurisdiction of the Board. Each meeting agenda must also allow time to hear a report from the Taxpayer Liaison Officer who reviews written complaints and reports back to the Board about the status of complaint resolutions.
